How Fostering can change a future

Navigation:

Did you know, over 8,000 new foster families are needed in the next 12 months alone?

With Foster Care Fortnight 2019 fast approaching, it’s worth considering how fostering can significantly change a future – not only for a young person or child, but for a foster family, too.

What is Foster Care Fortnight?

Every year, The Fostering Network hosts an annual campaign to raise awareness of fostering and demonstrate how fostering can transform lives. Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster carer recruitment campaign – with the message of how fostering can #changeafuture embedded into the campaign. Foster Care Fortnight takes place 13 – 26th May 2019.

The main purpose of this fostering fortnight is to raise awareness about how fostering can change the futures of everyone involved. With the right skills and the relevant experience, you could get involved with the fostering community today. Currently, the greatest need for foster carers is for older children, disabled children and sibling groups. The Fostering Network encourages people to get involved with this annual campaign by thinking about a moment in your life which inspired your future to change – and relate that to fostering, and the impact that fostering has on someone’s life.

Why should I become a foster parent?

Changing a future isn’t solely referring to the future of the young person being fostered. Becoming a foster parent is a life-changing experience that can be truly rewarding in ways you didn’t expect. And foster carers are needed more than ever – there are over 72000 children in care so we urgently need members of the public to come forward to be foster carers. There are increasingly more children who need looking after which, in turn, means the demand for carers also rises, too.

So, how can fostering change a future?

  • It can give a child or young person a stable, secure home
  • It can provide financial security for someone
  • It gives a young person or a child a chance to have a fresh start in life
  • It can remove a young person or child from harm or dangerous situations
  • It can be extremely rewarding for the whole family
  • It can lead to full-time adoption and embracing someone into the family full-time
