Read K's story and find out more about the amazing bond he and his foster family share.
I have been in foster care for the past ten years and I can honestly say my journey has been a fantastic experience. I have been through some highs and lows, but my family has continuously helped me through them.
I’ve grown up and in doing so, I’ve done bad things but every time, my family has always helped me get over it and taught me why I shouldn’t do it again and what I need to do to be a better person. I have always been pushed towards education and I have always been helped by my family to push myself and aim for excellence. By following this guidance, I have passed all my GCSEs and I am now pushing towards doing very well for sixth form.
I am most proud of my GCSEs and everything everyone in the family has accomplished, such as my sister owning and achieving an upcoming business and my Aunty passing university. The advice I’d give to children in foster care is that bad times don’t last forever, and foster care gives you lots of advantages in life that you may not have had before, you should take advantage of everything.
In the future, I hope my music takes off and I pass university with flying colours. The support from Capstone has been very good and they are always there when you need them. The best thing about being in foster care is meeting new people and being taken into a family that will love you and help you excel in life.
Overall, I have had a fantastic experience, words cannot be put into sentences for what I owe my family. In my life, you brought me up through hard times and made me feel a part of the family! I have come to love you guys and I believed everything you have told me as I grew up.
Proud to call them my family and I am very thankful for what they have done for me.
A note from K’s Foster Carer:
“I am so proud of this young man who managed to stay on the right path, so far, and I wish him a bright future ahead. I am so proud you have chosen to stay and make a life for yourself.
“K, it has been a pleasure and an honour to have you as part of our family and I feel so proud to call you my son as you know already as that this is how I've always addressed you when we are out on the road. I have high hopes that you will continue to make us all proud of you and always make wise choices in your life when you leave us to grow out in the big wide world and show us the loving young caring man you've grown up to be.
“We will never forget you and you are always welcome here, as we've told you before 'our door is always open to you’. It is going to take a while to process that you are no longer living with us and for me to get used to calling your name and not seeing you running down the stairs to me.
“Continue to shine in the musical world and we will keep a lookout for our famous son whose 'MADE IT!' with the songs you wrote or the music you've decided to put out for the world to love too.”
Everyone here at Capstone is so proud of K and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for him.
