Maggie

Maggie wanted to make a difference, and she had explored the idea of setting up her own business to become a child minder before finally deciding to become a foster carer.

“It was my daughter who told me to think about fostering. She is partially blind and she thought I would be good at supporting a child with needs like her own. I was good at fighting her corner, and she thought I could help fight another child’s corner too!”

Maggie looked at several agencies, but it was the support that drew her towards Capstone in 2009.

Maggie was open to the idea of fostering children of all ages. She was approached to foster a sibling group, brothers ages 2 and 5. The boys are now 12 and 15 and one of the children has ADHD. Over the years Maggie has provided the boys with lots of love and stability however sometimes can find that 1 of the young boys behaviour in particular can become very challenging.

Maggie said “The thing she most enjoys about fostering is when a young person achieves something or receives something they never expected to. It makes her feel very proud”.
