12th July, 2019
On 1st July 2019, one of our carer Barbie, along with friends and colleagues hosted an Afternoon Tea for Breast Cancer Care as part of a national campaign which is taking place in July across the country. Barbie’s birth daughter is one of the fortunate ones, she was correctly diagnosed, given the best treatment, care and support and continues to BEAT breast cancer. The afternoon was not only blessed with beautiful sunshine but also over 100 people came and sat in Barbie’s garden in Market Lavington to drink tea, eat cake and scones. Cllr. Gamble who attended with his wife called it a fantastic afternoon and was genuinely impressed by the support that was given to the event. Most generously local supermarkets gave their support by donating all the provisions required for the event and local businesses immediately responded with gifts and vouchers for the raffle. Capstone Foster Care supported on the day contributing to the final fundraising total. The hosts were staggered by the support and over £1,000 was raised on the day. On top of that, the JustGiving site raised nearly £800 from all those that were unable to attend for one reason or another. Barbie said: “We just can’t thank everyone enough for all the help we received to make this afternoon a massive success.”
