10th August, 2021
In May this year, our Devon and Berkeley carers received some sunflower seeds to plant and nurture with their children and young people. The race is on to see whose sunflower grows the tallest by 25th August! We are so proud of the children who have tended and protected the sunflowers. Here’s the progress so far from different households:
We have A in the lead, with Caterpillar Joe and B is a close second. L is 3rd and looking very healthy. They are all close to the snail beer traps!
Cornelius, Bill, Mr Gum and Mary were in another part of the garden and were completely chomped by snails. 11 sunflower babies in total are thriving!
T grew his plant from the seeds and he checks them every morning!
We’ve suffered a slug-mageddon but we’ve got 3 remaining plants, one of which is now taller than M. He’s very interested in the growth updates when I point them out but isn’t so keen on the watering duties or late-night slug and snail removal with the aid of a torch!
Here's the biggest one, but we’re aiming for a lot higher than this…
