Our Anchor Youth group meet up virtually!

20th July, 2020

Due to COVID-19, our support workers have not been able to hold our regular Anchor Youth groups for the children of Capstone North. The children and young people really look forward to catching up together, so we didn't let the pandemic stop us and we looked at ways to hold these virtually. The support workers decided to hold these over video call on WhatsApp with certain themes each month. This month's theme was about animals, wildlife and pets!

When the group opened for discussion, we began by having a general catchup and checked everyone was okay. Our young people were very chatty on the video call and shared photos of their baking and cookery that they had been creating during lockdown.

Hayley, our support worker, led the animals and pets theme as she shared video clips of her own animals. Hayley has her very own alpacas and goats - the children were so excited to see them!

Helen our other support worker also sent in some photos of wildlife she has been observing whilst out walking. There were swans, geese and some young calves in a field.

All the group seemed uplifted by the videos and photos. They all mentioned that they are enjoy going on walks and would continue to look out for anything that would be good to share. We even discussed sending any good photos in for the Countryfile Calendar competition that runs on ITV each year.

The youth group have decided to continue with regular meetings and are looking forward to the next one, which they are due to hold on Zoom.
