Here at Capstone Foster Care, we have been blown away with the amazing achievements some of our young people have been achieving during lockdown. The current situation with the global pandemic has forced us all to accept a ‘new normal’ which has been hard to adjust to which has been especially hard for children and young people.
We wanted to celebrate our Capstone superstars who have been shining throughout this difficult time. Find out more about our fabulous superstars below:
Our amazing young person AK has progressed with his spoken English and understanding others around him. AK has also started to learn more about healthy eating and has incorporated this into his daily routine which has resulted in a little weight loss in the process. Adding to the healthy lifestyle change, AK has taken an interest in outdoor activities and has started building his practical skills, he really enjoys working with wood.
Despite LJH struggles during the government lockdown, she has continued to make some great progress. LJH’s confidence on her bike has flourished and she very much enjoys riding around the local park on it. She has improved so much on her bike that it is almost time to take off the stabilisers! LJH has also made heaps of progress with her writing skills especially with her new electronic writing/drawing pad, she can now write her own name confidently and is always improving.
LJH’s carers are very proud of her development, they said: “We are super proud of LJH’s newfound interest in jigsaws. She loves to sit with her jigsaws and enjoys sharing her achievement with us afterwards. LJH loves to trampoline in the garden and can now successfully ‘seat drop’ getting back to her feet. This has been lovely to watch as LJH struggled with her gross motor skills when she first came to live with us.”
ZH is developing a lovely personality and has been super despite the complications of the government lockdown. One of his greatest achievements during the lockdown is with his Makaton (sign language). He has come on leaps and bounds and feels confident using his Makaton with his foster family and others to aid in expressing his needs. ZH has always been interested in the piano in the lounge and loves to play on it daily. During lockdown ZH has spent plenty of time on the piano and has learned the different sounds so that he can get to the ones that he wants. This has really helped with his fine motor skills. ZH likes to spend time at the canal on the narrowboat. He has learned how to feed the ducks and will ask regularly to go down to the canal so he can feed them. ZH also loves numbers, so he enjoys going out on the boat and reading the numbers on the other boats.
FK has improved his English, as well as improving his manners during lockdown. FK has shown a keen interest in how plants, flowers and vegetables are grown. FK and his carers have spent time together learning more about the growing process and what can be grown by planting seeds.
From everyone here at Capstone Foster Care, we want to say a massive well done to our lockdown superstars! If you know anyone who is a superstar and deserves recognition for their work or progress, let us know by contacting us at: communication@capstonefostercare.co.uk
